Learning all of the medical terms you may hear is one of the most important parts of being a medical transcriptionist. Listening to dictation after dictation rattle off terms based on specialties of medicine would be very difficult without knowledge of the terms and their basic meanings. Due to the fact that you are preparing medical reports for patients’ permanent health records, it is a necessity to fully grasp this terminology. With the medical field changing and expanding, there will always be more terminology to learn so it is definitely a process, but as an MT you must be willing to keep learning in order to keep being a successful MT.

Future MT is an online medical transcription training course that emphasizes the importance of the terminology. There is a textbook for the course, and while the first half of the book is about basic medical transcription, the second half is 17 chapters dedicated to different medical specialties and terminology associated with them. Here is a list of the medical specialties that are included in the text through Future MT:

  • Dermatology
  • Gastroenterology

  • Cardiology

  • Pulmonary Medicine

  • Endocrinology

  • Orthopedics

  • Obstetrics-Gynecology

  • Otorhinolaryngology

  • Ophmalmology

  • Neurology

  • Psychiatry

  • Pathology

  • Radiology
By dedicating your time to learning more and more terminology, you will be a more successful MT. The more you know, the more opportunities you will have in positions as an MT as well. Through the text, and also the CD-ROM included in the training at Future MT, your resources are endless, and you will learn more than you thought you could.
