You know by now that one of the most important skills for a medical transcriptionist is to be able to spell. Another important skill is grammar. And another one is Googling.
That last one is very important if you are a self employed medical transcriptionist or work from home. Sounds odd, doesn't it? Why would Googling be important for work at home medical transcriptionists and not those who work in a doctor's office or a hospital? It has a lot to do with time management.
As a medical transcriptionist, you have stringent deadlines to meet. You could get a call first thing in the morning to prepare a dictation report that needs to be done by the end of the day. You think you have time and you agree to do it. But then the baby makes a mess in the living room, the mailman rings the door bell and has you sign for a package and your mother calls with bad news. Minutes tick away and you are running out of time. It's lunch time and you are starving. No time to fix something up; you've got to keep transcribing.
You're at your desk so you flip over to your open Internet browser and type "Pizza Hut" into your Google search bar. If you were really efficient you would have it bookmarked, but that's another story. After a minute of searching for your local Pizza Hut's website and ordering information you fill out their online form and place an order, being careful to point out that you want your pizza delivered. And it is, right on time.
Thanks to Google, Pizza Hut and your work-at-home efficiency, you are able to finish your dictation report on time. Learn more about becoming a medical transcriptionist today.
