So many people think that you need to spend thousands of dollars to get a good Medical Transcription education that will end in a job. I think with your books and a good dictionary you can get just as good a grasp for much less. You have always answered any questions promptly and I thank you for that.  Have a great day! -- Diane

Working from home as a medical transcriptionist is no different than any other home based job where you are the boss and must manage your career yourself. In order to not only succeed but to grow you must be a proactive participant in your own business.

When working from home, no one is going to manage your career for you (unless you hire someone to do so or have a close MT friend who has time and is willing to help). You are the best person to manage your career as you have the most at stake and rarely would another person  work as hard to ensure your success.

-Kaizen. A Japanese term meaning continuous improvement. Strive for continuously updating your business plan with small doable steps. Small but sustained continuous improvement can generate long-term advantages. It's through constant improvement that we are able to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

-Commitment to excellence and motivation. You must have high motivation to be your own boss and to strive for more. It's very difficult to work at home where there are daily distractions and the TV calling you to go out and watch it. Be determined and have a plan.

-Monitor progress. You also must be able to measure and monitor your progress in your business. Monitoring the measurable success of your business will help you keep track of how well it is going and if you are on the right track.

-Consistency and patience. Continue to improve your skills and be patient. Everyone knows the expression "Rome wasn't built in a day." Continue to incrementally evolve, and increase your level of education and training. You can never learn too much.

It can be a difficult journey and not everyone will be able to hold it up, but if you work hard and know where you are going, your MT career from home can provide you great rewards.
