Finding a school that offers medical transcription training is not a difficult task these days. Throw a stone at the internet (metaphorically speaking) and you will hit several. However, the training is necessary, especially if you find the right school for you. One very important road to a proper education is research, research, research. Ask questions and bleed the schools for as much information as possible. Find the best, compare and don't be shy. Do not take short cuts! You may get your certification, but you probably won't get the training and information you need to be a really good transcriptionist and get the good jobs.
Right now in the medical transcription field, job openings are abundant and employers are hungry for new talent. You could very well be the new talent that lands that high paying career. But medical transcription companies need people that can produce, not people that require a lot of handholding and mentoring. And just getting "any" certification won't do this for you. As a matter of fact, go to the wrong school, get the wrong training and you could very well be wasting money and time.
Also, if you are looking for a shortcut to making money at home and you are not willing to really work, medical transcription is probably not right for you. You want, first of all, to find a school - and understand exactly - what their courses are and what they teach. You want a very comprehensive learning of the complete medical transcription training, not just a mash of certain techniques you can use here and there.
Besides medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and disease processes, abbreviations and plurals, and a host of other foundation material — all from a medical transcriptionist’s perspective - you want a school that will teach you practical application as well.
The road to becoming a medical transcriptionist is not an easy one. It's a long one. Make sure you do it right the first time.
