A good career doesn't start the day you get your first job. It starts before that, usually with your decision to seek training. This is particularly true with the medical transcription profession.
Because the medical transcription profession is still relatively new, there is still a small history of success stories to learn from. But there is a history. And one of the benefits to the Future MT online medical transcription course is that you have access to live mentoring. Our mentors are successful medical transcription professionals themselves who are willing to share their experiences and insights with you freely.
One of the questions we hear most often is, "What can I expect in terms of my career progression as a medical transcriptionist?"
This is a good question and there is more than one answer. It really depends.
If you decide to work at home as a freelancer then your progression as a medical transcriptionist depends a lot on your ability to market yourself, attract new clients and provide good customer service - not to mention high quality medical documents. On the other hand, you could work for an individual doctor, a physician's office or a hospital. The career arc for each of these is a bit different.
Another option is to go to work for a medical transcription company. If you go this route then you'll start as a basic entry level medical transcriptionist. At some point you might supervise a team of medical transcriptionists. If your medical documents are superb then you could work as a quality assurance MT and ensure that other medical transcriptionists are meeting quality guidelines in their work. Eventually, you could head the company, in which case you would not be doing medical transcription work yourself but work as an administrator - setting guidelines, handling large clients, etc.
There is no one progression arc to the medical transcription profession. There are many roads to success, but it all starts with your choice in training schools.
