If you're wondering whether or not you'll have to read doctor's handwritten notes when you get a job as a medical transcriptionist then the answer is "Yes." You will. But you'll also be able to listen to voice recordings and dictate from those.

Every day is different. Every job is different. When you are employed as a medical transcriptionist you will enjoy a lot of variety.

You might, one minute, get a job with a short deadline and just a few hundred words of dictation. Then you could get a medical document job that will require 4, 5 or 8 hours of your time. You may have a dictation job that takes you deep into radiological terminology then turn around and make sure you produce a medical document that is all about skin conditions. You could work for a hospital one day and a solo practitioner the next.

Medical transcription is a varied career. Your job is to produce near perfect medical documents. Those documents could be about a lot of different things and for many different purposes. Nevertheless, they all have to be dictated by someone and that person is you.

As a medical transcriptionist, you have to have good listening skills. You also have to be well versed in the English language and be familiar with a lot of medical terms. Your proficiency in these skills will determine your salary and your overall happiness in the profession. Seek out a medical transcription training course that prepares you for the job and you will have a happy and long career.
