While you are training to be a medical transcriptionist it is likely you'll have other obligations to fill as well.

  • A full-time or part-time job
  • Children in or out of school
  • Family meals to prepare
  • Social activities like church and PTO
  • Volunteer or community service activities
  • Add your own obligation here

You're not alone. Everyone starts a new career or training for a new career with a full plate. it's tough. But remember why you are training to become a medical transcriptionist in the first place. You are preparing your future. And that means making the time for important things like training.

You are considering a new career in medical transcription for a reason. Either you've been fired or laid off or you realize that there is no future in your current career. Maybe you're just ready for a change. Whatever the case, you need to fit it in.

Here are some tips for planning your training time around your current activities:

  • Get out of bed an hour earlier each day and work on your medical transcription training
  • Stay up an hour later at night after the kids are fed and put to bed and work on your training
  • Spend a few minutes at lunch working on medical transcription training
  • Carry your CD-ROM with you wherever you go and your laptop (if you have one) and steel a few minutes when you can to study your medical terminology or another aspect of the course that doesn't require a lot of time
  • Work it in during breaks
  • Take a trip to the library on a day when your spouse can watch the kids and spend an hour or two studying with some quiet time
  • Or ask the spouse to take the kids to the park so you can have some study time
  • Take a short break from volunteerism activities and use that time to study the course materials then when you have graduated from the medical transcription course you can start the volunteer work again.

You may have to get a little creative, but you can find the time to study if you really want a medical transcription career. Now is the ripe time for getting in.
