Once you graduate from your online medical transcription training course you'll want to find your first medical transcription job. How do you go about that? Here are a few tips.

  1. It's important to get your resume out there circulating as quickly as possible. A reputable medical transcription course will offer a job placement assistance program and you should submit your resume to that program as soon as possible. Many schools have a limited assistance timeframe so get in early and start talking to potential employers.
  2. Find a few hospitals in your area and walk into the human resources office. Ask if they have any job openings for medical transcriptionists. Chances are, they do. Many times you can find a job before the HR department advertises it. You'll have first consideration.
  3. Cruise online job boards.
  4. Check your local newspaper.
  5. Visit your city's unemployment office. Even if you are not receiving benefits, most state unemployment offices offer resources for the unemployed that will help them get a job more quickly. Find out if you can see the jobs available list and be specific that you are looking for a medical transcription job.
  6. Talk to friends and family. Someone you know may know someone who is hiring.
  7. Look in the Yellow Pages for medical transcription companies, hospitals and physicians offices and call around to see if any of them are hiring.
  8. Browse Craigslist for job openings in your area.
  9. Start your own freelance medical transcription service. Put up a website and begin advertising in your area to see if employers take you up on your offerings. Many of them will.
  10. Local supermarkets, community colleges and even medical clinics and hospitals often have kiosks where job opportunities are posted.

One thing is clear. If you want a job as a medical transcriptionist today then you have to work on it. Looking for a job is a full-time activity. If you are aggressive and confident then you'll find the right job in no time.
