If you're wondering just what the working conditions of a medical transcriptionist are, and specifically how many hours a week they work, then you've come to the right place.
Medical transcriptionists generally have a flexible work schedule. Of course, if you work for an employer - an agency, hospital or doctor - then your hours will be set by your employer. However, it's not uncommon for a medical transcriptionist working for hire as a company employee not to have some of the same flexibility as a work-at-home medical transcriptionist. For the most part, you'll get to choose your own hours.
Of course, you'll frequently have very tight and stringent deadlines. So it may not always seem like you are in control of your time. But you are.
If you get a job that has a four hour deadline then you'll have to meet that deadline. But if you have a job that comes with a 72-hour deadline then you can take your time with it. As long as you are capable of judging how much time you'll need for each task and you can meet your deadline then you can set your own work hours. That's one of the truly beautiful aspects of the medical transcription profession.
