A survey of professions will show that medical transcriptionists have a lot to look forward to. It's a growing profession and the prospects look better now than ever before. There are several reasons why.
- Insurance companies will not pay invoices until there is a dictation report. That means doctors and hospitals that rely on insurance payments have an incentive for hiring a qualified medical transcriptionist to handle their necessary dictations.
- As long as people get sick, hospitalized, or injured, there will be a need for medical transcription work.
- Discussion on national health care and national health insurance have brought increased awareness to the issues that medical transcriptionists deal with every day.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Democrats will get their national health care insurance policy. Barack Obama will likely not get everything he wants on this issue, but it's looking quite possible that a national health care program of some kind could be passed in the near future. If it does then that will open the door for more medical transcription work. In fact, it will likely open the floodgates of necessary medical transcription work and allow for more professional medical transcriptionists to enter the profession and earn a comfortable living.
The future looks good for medical transcription work. This is one profession that won't be going away.
