Physicians and hospitals are two entities that require the services of a medical transcriptionist. Many hospitals employ medical transcriptionists full time in order to take advantage of the necessity of the service. Hospital administrators can either pay a full-time salary with benefits or a home based MT, which is the way the industry is heading. Roughly 75% of MTs work from home while 25% work in offices.
So why do hospitals even need a medical transcriptionist? Plain and simple, really. Insurance companies won't pay invoices unless they have a dictation report. That's a pretty good incentive for a hospital since a large portion of their billable services are paid by insurance companies.
And now you know why it pays to be a medical transcriptionist. It will only get better.
