The differences between
medical transcription training courses is similar to the differences between a 4-year school program and a trade school. Longer medical transcription classes take about 3-4 times more time to complete.
Some training courses can be completed in just 3-6 months if worked on diligently from home, such as FutureMT. Others are taken like other school subjects, taking up to 2 years.
In a work from home course, students learn more about the various aspects of the subject. The training is based on real world experience and what the field will throw at a true MT. This will allow the student to jump right into a career with no hiccups of transitioning out of school.
Most knowledge needed to perform well as an MT is learned on the job and through real experience. Comprehensive knowledge is of course gained through the training that is chosen. If you would like to study longer and gain much more extensive book knowledge, then an in-school course may be the answer. On the other hand, you can begin working sooner and have a thorough knowledge base already if taking an online course from home.
Each person has different goals and plans in mind and this will determine which type of schooling is best for them. The only true way to be successful as an MT is to practice and gaining as much real life experience as possible will do this.
Practice through experience will increase typing speed and accuracy, which will in turn determine your
salary as an MT.
