What kind of personality is best suited for medical transcription? Is it an introvert? An extravert? A thinker or a feeler?
While we are sure there are certain skills that are necessary to be successful at a career in medical transcription, we are equally sure that almost any personality type can be successful as well. Introverts and extraverts alike can learn how to dictate medical reports and organize medical information. Thinkers and feelers, sensors and intuitive personality types, and judgers and perceivers are all capable of learning how to be a medical transcriptionist. The real test is in the skills.
You really don't have to have all the right skills to take on medical transcriptionist training. You can develop through training. But if you already are a fast typist, highly organized, understand medical terminology and can work under pressure then you'd have a leg up going into training.
However, it's not what you do in training that is important. It's what you do afterward. You can freelance as a medical transcriptionist if you think you are capable of running your own business, or you can take on a job as a medical transcriptionist for a hospital, a physician's office or other organization that uses medical transcription. It's a great career and there's no way to know whether you are really cut out for it if you don't try.
