Even if you don't end up working as a medical transcriptionist, going through the medical transcriptionst training can benefit you in other careers.
For instance, in the Future MT online medical transcription training course you learn a great deal of information that carries over to other professions. The medical terminology portion of the course itself will train you in the language of many medical specialties. If you go into any other medical profession, this will help you. Emergency medical technicians, nurse's aids, physical trainers, physicians assistance, and many other medical specialists can use this information, particularly if they interact daily with specialists from other closely-related professions.
But even if you don't enter a medical profession, the organization skills are transferrable as well. Legal secretaries, executive assistance and other clerical and office workers utiliize some of the same skills as a medical transcriptionist. Typing and dictation are two such skills.
If you're teeter-tottering on whether to pursue a career as a medical transcriptionist and you are currently working in a profession that is closely related and where the skills are transferrable, you can still take the course and benefit from it. You can still apply for a scholarship and possibly win it. Don't put it aside just because you aren't 100% sure.
