In the medical transcription field, there are some who still get paid by the hour, but most are paid by productivity. It is important in this case to work on typing speed and accuracy as your productivity will be determined by these. The more reports you get done, the more you will be paid. Here are some tips to do your best and make the most out of your work time.

Concentrate On Your Skill – First, you will need to complete a medical transcription training program, you will not have the skills necessary to be a successful MT without receiving the teachings of a certified training program. Focus on your skills and continue to work on them.  You will have the ability to understand dictations as well as other skills upon graduating from an MT training program.

Typing Speed - You will not be successful as an MT if you do not have good typing skills. You should begin working on increasing your speed as soon as you can. There are many programs available to assist you in increasing your speed. With most positions being productivity based in pay, you will only continue to make more money if you can produce more medical records faster as time goes on. When you first start as an MT, you will first have to get used to listening and understanding dictations, then you can work on improving your skills. Be sure to not only focus on typing fast but keeping what you are typing accurate.

Overall, you must focus as a medical transcriptionist. If you keep busy, working hard, you will be successful. Be sure to be motivated and self-disciplined and you will do well.
