Medical Transcription Profession Will Grow 15%-20%

The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity calls the medical transcription profession a $16 billion industry. It may seem that such an industry doesn't have much room to grow, especially in a downward trending economy or one that is slowly crawling up from its valley. But that's not true. The medical transcription profession has bright prospects.

The US Department of Labor expects the profession to grow by 14% from 2006 to 2016. The Medical Transcription Industry Alliance puts the number at 15%-20% in the next 5 or 10 years. Either way, that's significant growth - higher than most professions.

One reason for this expected growth is because insurance companies require a dictation report from physicians and hospitals before they'll pay invoices. That provides motivation to health care professionals to get those reports and make sure they're accurate. Since it is the medical transcriptionists job to provide dictation reports, that translates into a high demand for the professional who can make it happen.
