As a medical transcriptionist you'll be called upon daily to put your proofreading skills to work. You'll need to be an expert proofreader.

The online medical transcription course textbook actually gives you practical exercises so that you can practice your proofreading skills. This is a very important skill for a medical transcriptionist and you'll need all the practice that you can get.

  • Spelling - Evey medical transcriptionist should have a good handle on spelling, not just common everyday words but uncommon medical terminology as well. You should learn to spell the words you'll see in your dictation reports and if you are not a good speller now, prepare yourself for a lot of study and memorization.
  • Grammar - You'll also need to brush up on your grammar skills. Your dictation reports will have to be put into proper grammatical style so study your grammar rules hard.
  • Style - Style is also important. But it's important to understand what is meant by style. Writers and authors refer to style to describe the elements of writing (the proper construction of sentences, word choices, placement of key punctuation marks, etc.).

If you want to be a medical transcriptionist, you'll need to brush up on your proofreading skills.
